Review: Doom

When the last time a movie based on a game came out and it was good.... think hard... exactly... there haven't been any, and you can add this one to the list.

If you remember installing Doom from 3˝" floppies, defiantly save your money. If you're looking for a random slaughter-fest against anything that moves, this might be for you.

So I have to have reasons for why I don't like it, without spoiling it for those who may still want to go see it, so here goes.

First, its only 11 years from now, and apparently humans have advanced to the point where we have colonized mars, built "bio" weapons which melt steel somehow, and send our marines around in helicopters that look really close to a Comanche. Ok, Ill buy that... but you'd think with all this technology, we could invent something for our marines other then a standard light duty bullet proof vest? Oh, right, we don't need anything better, because apparently guns in the future can be toted around as if they were light as air.

As for the facilities... it seemed to me all the lights worked… so I couldn't figure out why no one ever turned them on! For some reason unknown to me, marines in the future prefer to run around dark hallways with their dying flashlights instead... and sheesh, we can build on mars, travel to and from earth in seconds, but we can't clean the place? A facility of scientists inventing and discovering some of the most important things known to man, and they all seem to work in a dingy, greasy, corridor ridden, facility with a sewer that had so much water, it was dripping from the roof like rain for some reason.

So now you heard the bad... now how about the good you may ask? Well, Umm… uhhh... Oh yeah, the movie they previewed (Jarhead) looked really good! There, there was something good…

I guess in closing, ill give them credit for the attempt, it's just really too bad they fell short in so many areas (Like not having Sarge in his trademark green marine armour). I wouldn't recommend this to any of my friends, but like I said, if your just looking to leave your brain at the door and watch a bunch of marines kill everything including each other.. Then this movie just may be for you,

All in all, I give it 2 unhappy and bored army guys out of 5
