Telnets' Total E-Slayer Conversion Guide - E-Slayer to E-Slayer
Oct 02, 2009

In this conversion Ill cover the necessary steps to take your metal chassis Revo or Slayer conversion, and change it over to the sleeker E-Revo molded chassis which has the battery trays and Brushless Ready transmission. Why would you want to? Take a look at the Pros & Cons List and decide for yourself if it’s worth it to you or not.

The Chassis
One of the two changes you will need to make for this conversion is moving all your parts from the metal Revo/Slayer chassis to the new E-Revo plastic one. If you’re already using the longer Revo chassis, everything should move over cleanly. If you have the shorter one or originally converted a Slayer then you will need to pick up longer center drive shafts (Part # TRA5456) to fit the E-Revo chassis (also included within the Parts List).

Motor/esc/receiver/batteries
Remember that fancy electric conversion kit you picked up? Yeah, that’s of no real use anymore either. Your motor mounts right up to the new transmission, your batteries have their own compartments (Assuming your not running a 6s Lipo brick) so the old battery holder isn’t of much use, and you probably didn’t use the receiver and ESC mounting plates anyhow, but if you did, they ant needed either. Feel free to sell your conversion kit to make up part of the cost for this project.

There are 2 things to consider purchasing for the new chassis though and I highly recommend both of them. If you own a Castle Creations Mamba, then the first item to grab is a $2.50 mounting harness (Part # TRA5626) for the ESC. The second item is a receiver box (Part # TRA5624). It’s not a necessity since you can just stick your receiver to the chassis, but having a sealed box is always nice to keep the dust, mud and water out, but it’s up to you.

Transmission
You can also leave your old transmission as well as the entire mechanical brake or mechanical reverse setups you may still be running. They will no longer be needed and will be controlled by the motor instead, just sure to enable brakes and/or reverse on your motor/ESC as necessary. Im reminding you because after I changed over mine, I gunned it down the street and just as I hit about 50MPH I rememberd my brakes were disabled, and yeah.. but dont worry the cat was fine!

Suspension
Assuming you already had one of the Slayer to E-Slayer or Revo to E-Slayer conversions, then you already have everything for the suspension to move over. The only thing you will want to consider is installing softer springs since your truck just got a whole lot lighter.

Parts Listing for E-Revo to E-Slayer Conversion
I don’t think Traxxas has a specific part number for a complete replacement transmission so I won’t list a part number for it. Instead I recommend hoping onto Ebay, do a search for “E-Revo Transmission” and pickup a complete transmission taken from a new E-Revo or E-Revo Brushless edition (They are exactly the same). That’s what I did and the cost was only around $30. Just make sure it is in fact an E-Revo transmission and not a Revo, or the 1:16 scale E-Revo… Ill list some other parts such as the finned mount, single motor mounting plate, etc. just incase your auction doesn’t include them, if it does then you wont have to pick them up separately.

I will also list part numbers for everything you need for the chassis including skid plates, battery doors ect. but again, you could probably find these on Ebay together in 1 auction which would be cheaper then ordering individually.

Remember, this Parts Listing is already assuming you have an E-Slayer built, so these are just the parts to convert it to the new style chassis.

If I'm missing anything, let me know!

Cost $
The cost on this conversion is really dependent on the kind of deal you can find on Ebay, so it's difficult to estimate. My Chassis was $20 and came with the battery doors, vents and skid plates, and my transmission was about $30, add about $15 for shipping and I was sitting at about $65. I needed about $25 more in parts for the motor mount which put me just under $100. Tack on the SC8 body I picked up at the LHS for $42 and I was done. So all in all, I would say this conversion should be between $120 - $200, again, depending on what you find.
